This Background Checks & Verification Policy (“Policy”) explains how Unaffiliate verifies identity, conducts optional or mandatory background checks, and ensures compliance with applicable laws. It is incorporated into the Terms & Conditions and applies to all Users (Hosts, Guests, and Freelancers).
To ensure trust, safety, and integrity within the Unaffiliate community.
To verify that users are who they claim to be.
To minimize fraud, unsafe conduct, and unlawful activity.
Guests: Government ID verification required for all bookings. For high-value or large-capacity events, additional checks may be required.
Hosts: Must complete ID verification and provide valid COI. Optional criminal/financial background checks available for Elite tier marketing boosts.
Freelancers: Must complete ID verification. Optional background checks may be required for certain services (e.g., childcare, event security, licensed trades).
Where background checks are required or requested, they may include:
Identity Verification: Government-issued ID, biometrics, or third-party digital verification.
Criminal Records: Where legally permitted, covering felony/misdemeanor convictions relevant to safety and trust.
Sex Offender Registries: Checked in applicable jurisdictions.
Employment or Licensing Verification: For regulated services (e.g., bartending, security, trades).
Credit/Financial History: Only if relevant to commercial leasing or property management partnerships.
In the United States, background checks are conducted in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
Users must provide written consent before a background check is initiated.
Users have the right to request a copy of their report and dispute inaccuracies.
In the EU/UK, Unaffiliate complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and local privacy laws.
Unaffiliate partners with third-party background check providers (e.g., Checkr, Sterling, or international equivalents).
Users agree to the vendor’s terms of service when submitting information.
Unaffiliate disclaims liability for errors, omissions, or delays by third-party vendors.
Guests: Verification included in Trust & Safety Fees.
Hosts & Freelancers: Basic ID verification included in subscription fees.
Optional add-on background checks may be purchased per-user or included in Elite tier bundles.
Costs are set transparently at time of purchase or upgrade.
Users with relevant violent, sexual, or fraud-related convictions may be denied access.
Certain offenses may trigger conditional restrictions (e.g., not eligible for childcare or security listings).
Hosts with expired or missing COIs may have listings suspended until updated.
Background check data is handled as sensitive personal information under the Privacy Policy.
Reports are not shared with other users; only eligibility status (“Verified” or “Not Verified”) is displayed.
Data retention is limited to the period necessary for compliance and dispute resolution.
Users denied access due to background check results may appeal within 30 days by submitting supporting documentation.
Appeals are reviewed by Unaffiliate Trust & Safety staff and may involve vendor re-checks.
Disputes relating to background checks and verifications are governed by the arbitration clause and jurisdiction provisions in the Terms & Conditions.
If any part of this Policy is deemed unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain valid. This Policy is incorporated into the Terms & Conditions and survives account suspension or termination.
